Saturday share: Its been awhile my friends.... between family with the flu, doggie getting spayed, losing a close childhood friend, training a new Pass worker for Ryan and Girl Scout cookie time, crafting for CHA and school were top priorities. Fun crafting was happening in and around all of this just to keep me sane. I have some projects here to share..

Chimps is a layout I did using up some old Crate paper product and mixing some new handmade embellishments into it all. Picture is kids standing in front of the chimpanzee skeletons in the Museum of Natural History museum in DC. Its Jon's and mine inside joke to our kids ... lol

Next is a cute card using scraps from the above layout. Wanted to do a pretty but generic stating card using this great quote sticker. The flower die cuts and butterfly are from K and Co

Lastly, this super simple card using some die cut embellishments and a strip of burlap along the back for interesting texture. I love burlap!

Be back soon with some new projects I created using new stuff being released this week at Craft and Hobby show in California... I know you will all love to see those!!!

Tie Dye canvas accents

Hello, Its Kim and I have a really fun technique today. When I saw these brand new canvas butterflies from Want 2 Scrap, I knew what I wanted to do... Tie Dye! These butterflies will be released at CHA this winter, Jan 29-Feb 1. Donna's Mix'd Media Inx are perfect for this project because the pigment is juicy, the pads are soft. This works great for paper or heavier items such as chipboard or fabric.

I started off with some different canvas butterflies They come already inked around the edges for the total distressed look.
I added the inx pad directly onto the canvas. Because canvas is such a heavy fabric, the pigment absorbs quickly into the grooves . This allows you to add many other colors until you achieve the look you want without spreading the color or giving it a muddy look.

For this first one, I saturated it in Denim... then added spots of Truffle in varied spaces.

Here are a few other examples I tie dyed using Jasmine, Chiffon and Peridot.The color possibilities and level of saturation can be adjusted to your application, so just like tie dye.. you have a unique look each time!
I stamped this image from Donna's new stamps onto cardstock using the Mix'd Media Inx in Denim as well. Notice how rich and even the impression is. These stamp pads are a must have.!

I layered the canvas butterflies and added some gems and a stick pin to create a one of a kind accent.

No surprise that many of these are projects I created using Donna Salazar products. Several of these have been published online, featured in magazines or blogs. I feel fortunate to have such appreciated artwork.

Have you finished....

shopping for the holidays yet? Only 4 days left! ahhhhhhhh... is it just me or as it gets closer to Christmas, there is so much more to do and time moves much faster? Hmmmm?
I did manage to heal myself of this cold and bake 4 types of cookies... Chocolate balls, Sandies, Peanut Butter Blossoms, Gingerbread and a special little biscuit for my sweet little daddy who will be alone in Arizona this year :( His presents are due to arrive... as I write this and I will add this little box of goodies just before his birthday (Jan 2).
The teachers gifts are bought... Im just trying to figure out a unique way to wrap them all... maybe some paper stockings?

Looking forward to spending a few days with down time... where nothing is open, no place to go and family out of town... I want to spend the day purging and cleaning but doesn't seem too festive for Christmas, huh? ;)

Thinking of everyone during this busy time of year. Hope you take some time to slow down a bit and take it all in... so much to be grateful for, so much to celebrate. Cheers!

Holiday Ornaments

"Its the Most... Wonderful Time.... of the Year".... okay, enough singing... :)
Its me Kim and I am here to share some projects I made for Christmas.
I created these two cute little ornaments with some of Donna's fun new Embossing powders. They match the colors of her Mix'd Media Inx... so there are so many fun techniques to try!
Today, I am sharing these ornaments that I created . They are easy to make and adding the touches of embossing gives them some dimension and lift.

The Santa ornament is a piece of Nestaboard.(pre shaped chipboard). I used Mix'd Media Inx in Jasmine. I added directly from pad to surface like shown below... I applied two coats, allowing it to dry in between.

When the chipboard is completely covered with ink and dry, I layered a favorite vintage image right over it. You can use a sheer transparent accent like I did or print one onto transparency from your favorite vintage clip art graphic.

Punch a hole through the top, tie a bow and some twine to create a hanging ornament.

To create the next ornament, I embossed an image from a favorite pattern paper.

I really wanted it to pop so I used the Embossing Gloss which has a narrow wand that allows you to literally hand paint on the embossing gel.

Add Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Embossing powder to the wet image.

Heat set with a gun .

The unique thing about this Gloss is that you can go back over small sections you may have missed.. or go over the entire image again for a thicker coat. You can also draw images free hand with the wand and get a completely individual image !

Once the image has dried, I cut the paper to create a border adhering it around a empty ribbon spool.I punched two small holes along the top to add twine for hanging

While taking a break, I noticed one cute but naughty puppy trying to do her own form of "distressing" a piece of chipboard... ;)

Okay, back to crafts.... Next up , I added a small paper image to the inside of the spool. I thought it would be fun to use the embossing powder to add "snow" to a few areas in the image.

I cut a favorite quote from the Crafty Chronicle news and added it around the spool

I added a lace bow and a cardstock punched border to the front of the spool.

Hang ornaments and admire how crafty you can be with ink and embossing powder!

I wanted to share some other crafts (other than cards and scrapbook pages) that I have been working on... I find time to create smaller crafts. Sometimes these take less time and can be done while watching tv or visiting with family, etc... so I tend to do more of these during busier times of the year.

First up is some new "posies" I found these gorgeous cupcake liners at Target.. I loved the bright green and polka dots with the darker richer red... so pretty and blends well with handmade buttons, Kraft paper bags and twine...

Secondly, I have been needle felting like a crazy woman. This is really addictive... I started making felted balls in all colors and finally stringed them together to creates some fun bracelets... Here are a few of the color combinations I created...

Christmas pj's

Every year , I buy my kid's a set of new soft , fluffy pajama's to open and wear for Christmas eve. I love taking an annual shot of them dressed and waiting for Santa...

I had fun creating a fun tree accent. Using Donna's Banner ARtistic papers. Cut out the banner using a spellbinders die . I used Mix'd Media Inx in to color it in and sprinkled it with Fairy Dust Glitter. Layer some gold ball gem strips to resemble lights. when you adhere it to the page, use foam squares or pop dots to give it dimension and have it stand away from the page.

Donna's weathered winter papers are mixed with lace, chipboard and buttons on a 12 inch sheet of distressed, corrugated board. A sheer large gold bow finishes the page.

A fun way to capture tradition and be creative too.

Paper Towels and planning

Believe it or not, we are into the Holidays... at least we are here at Donna Salazar Designs. This month we are sharing projects that you can make for the upcoming holiday season.
I don't know about you but thinking about the holidays already is getting me a bit stressed. Here is a little Holiday Planner I created . Planning and writing things down always seems to get me more organized and less stressed.

The little book is completely handmade from Pattern papers and cardstock with several embellishments, die cuts and bound together with lots of love and care as I am sure it will get its use this upcoming season!!
First, I die cut several dies out of pattern papers using Donna's Sprightly Sprockets and Carnation Creations dies. I added Mix'd Media Inx and Fairy Dust glitter to give them appropriate holiday shine.
Next I assembled the book distressing and inking the edges of various pattern papers from the Weathered Winter line.

As I was getting ready to assemble my little book, I dropped my new (and very coveted) Smooch Spritz in Hollyberry!!!

Yikes... Instead of looking like a crime scene, I was able to absorb most of it onto a roll of papertowel. Not wanting to waste any of that gorgeous stuff, I decided to have some fun with it instead!

I added some Evergreen smooch spritz with the Holly berry.
I hand cut leaves to make holly out of the spritzed and stained dry paper towel.

Next, I created a little bow by carefully tying a strip of the paper towel. Once it is spritzed, it is a bit delicate. Allowing it to fully dry helps it absorb the liquid and hold together better. I snipped the ends to resemble a bow.

Thirdly, I rolled a small piece to form a teeny handmade flower bud.

I can't believe how many ideas I had just from a silly mistake!

I layered and bound the book using my bind it all.

Now I am a bit more ready to get my planning on ... and this little book will remind me to make even the challenges that come along into inspiring opportunities... a great lesson for a busy time of year!

Here's to a peaceful start and some inspiration to get thinking about the holidays.

Autumn

is beautiful here in New England...
Driving or walking in the neighborhood shows tips of leaves beginning to crisp, burnt oranges and rich red leaves on the edges of large trees ... grass yellowing and warmth in the air...

and then by October.... the trees have all turned and some are beginning to fall.

Inside my house is no exception. I love taking down my summery seashells and sandy canvasses for richer, deeper colors, throw blankets, harvest baskets and other fun details... Decorating for Fall looks something like this in my house....

and I find myself drinking more and more of this.... YUM!

Puppy Update

Well, our little furbaby has been with us for over a week now. Not sure why I haven't blogged this sooner but I think I can say... I have been a bit busy ;)This is Dixie.

She is a litter of 7 pups that were surrendered to a high kill shelter in North Carolina. Thanks to amazing Rescues like Save a Lab and New England Lab Rescue, we have a new family member and her brothers and sisters were all adopted!

They are a lab mix... two of them look a bit chow mix and two were maybe Golden but our Nala was pretty much all lab!

Now that she is home with us, I actually see a bit of terrier in her? the perky ears and shape of her eyes.. .not to mention her sassy personality that she is developing.

So far, she is precious! Just so sweet, she loves loves to cuddle with us, is on my lap constantly and LOVES being held.

She is extremely curious about everything... always exploring and discovering something. I think if we would let her, she would spend life outside in the backyard. THis may be a bit complicated when winter comes! Ha

The kids are absolutely in love with her... well, we all are! Jon has more photos of her on his phone already than he does of me.. lol

She is pretty good, we are working on crate, housetraining and no biting. She started jumping up but does listen when we say "off".

She is good about sitting, coming when called (usually) lol and I think she knows her name.

She is chewing on everything so I spend most of the time just replacing her "non chewable" item with a chewing one... she does great chewing it afterwards... loves rawhides, bones and her stuffless skin raccoon... we call him "coonie" and he squeaks.. which drives her mad! lol Its hysterical to watch.

We have yet to hear her little voice. She doesnt bark but cocks her head at all the dogs in the neighborhood when they bark. Its very cute.

Only one night, she cried in the crate.. I even went back down to check that she didn't have her paw stuck or something because the rest of the time, she has been tolerating the crate fine.

She is typical lab though and I think once she is older, the crate will not be of use.

This is her with her foster mommy . She was an amazing woman who has saved so many precious doggies. Her big guy Maji is adorable and Dixie (Nala) treasured her like it was his own baby.. so so cute!

She is really teeny. I think she is around 10 weeks but pictures just don't describe just how little she is. Everyone that see's her says she looks like a lab in a Jack Russell body! LOL

We love her and I have taken a zillion pics already. I know who will be the subjects of my next few scrapbook albums! Ha

A Day to Remember

Hey everyone. Today, I am sharing a sweet feminine card using tons of vintage touches, lace, and glitter.

I mixed several lines of pattern papers layered and distressed.Notice the pink tinted edges? That is the beautiful Mix'd Media Inx in Chiffon. A shimmery ribbon and textured lace add to the dimensional texture. I fussy cut a vintage image from a ATC tag book and layered it under the trims.
Donna Salazars artistic papers are thick and heavy and the Artistic Journal tag was a perfect frame for the sentiment sticker.

I used my Spellbinders die Fanciful Flight to make the dragonfly...which is also cut from Artistic paper cardstock. I saturated glue gloss to the front and sprinkled Fairy Dust Glitter to add shimmer.

Pretty, shabby and ready for sharing!

Flea Market inspired

Hey everyone.. It's Kim here to share a flea market style project. I was inspired by this magazine

and this article in particular....

I absolutely LOVE the texture of this Wood frame . The contrast of the smooth pictures and that subtle green color against the wood is just amazing...

Today I am sharing how I made this wall hanging inspired by this article and its artwork.

I started off by inking a 6x6 inch piece of illustration board with Mix'd Media Inx in Peridot, Truffle and Honey. I applied it both with sponge daubers and directly to the board from the tube.
Next I wrapped a piece of lace and netting around the board.

I took a 7x7 sized Corrugated board. Peeled off the front layer to expose the corrugated piece underneath. I spritzed it with Smooch spritzes in Wood Grain, Candle Glow, Ice Rink and Cashmere. I also used Smooch in Molasses with its brush tip to rub lines randomly across the grooves of the corrugated board giving it a wood likeness.

I set this piece aside to dry. Then I cut a label out of Donna's Artistic paper using my Label One die.
I quickly pressed the blank side onto the corrugated wet front creating a unique grainy stain onto the label. I added some gems to the illustration board and adhered the label to the center.

I cut two butterflies from my Fanciful Flight dies , spritzed them with Ice Rink Smooch Spritz and added them to the right of the label using foam pop dots to add dimension

I also added some seed beads to the center of the butterfly using Glue Gloss. Its thin applicator tip is perfect for small beads, gems etc! I punched some holes into the corrugated top edge using my Bind It All. I ran a wired wrapped twine through the holes and formed a loop wrap... to create a hanging . I wrapped a silk ribbon around the illustration board and adhered the piece to the corrugated background.

Fit a small photo underneath a 3x4 in.clear Acrylic cover from Zutter adhering lightly at the corners.
I trimmed the word "adore" off of a Bingo card and adhered it with a decorative star sticker.

Now I have my own Flea Market inspired decor to enjoy!

Happy World Card Making

weekend.... I had a horrific Migraine on Saturday which was officially WCMD so I laid around and took naps off and on.. .Thank goodness Jon was home to help with kids so I could recover... those days , my life is just stagnant when I am in such pain and uncomfortableness.(Not sure that this is a word but, you get my drift ) ;)
Today is a new day... I whipped out 5 Halloween cards and hopping around the various sites checking out everyones creations... so fun..Here is a recent card I made

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month. I make several cards in honor of the many women affected by this disease as well as the countless Doctors, surgeons, nurses, therapists, spouses, and children that do everything to get women through it dignified and as seamless as possible. My mother would not have lived as long if it hadn't been for the countless people in her life that supported her and got her through her treatments, day to day encounters and various meetings etc..

Miss you momma.. and will continue to love and support those who dedicate their every month to Breast Cancer research and care... Bless each one of you...

Findings

I always get in these cycles of purging my scrap stuff and re decorating my studio... whenever I do this, I come across the most fun goodies... I found this pack of K and Co embellishments and this Prima gem set. Ha... Guess I should organize more often... I love finding the treasures though. Sometimes I think the dis organization actually inspires me more.. Do you need to have the perfectly clean space to create or can you create amongst disruption and artsy messes?
I am curious to find out what works for everyone?

Want 2 Scrap

Hello again. We are half way through September ! I am bringing you another project today using the fabulous Want 2 Scrap goodies . Can I tell you how excited I am to have some bling bling in my possession.

I can never line them up evenly, so having them pre sticky and pre shaped to match Donna's fab o designs is just amazing for me!
They also carry some fun shapes in a chipboard that matches the Nestabilities Lacey Ovals dies from Spellbinders... perfection! and not having to put adhesive on those bitty openings... can you hear me squealing with delight! ;)

First I started with some of the Want to Scrap nestaboard in the Lacey Ovals shapes... yes.. that's right.. they are already PRE cut to the lacey ovals board!!!
Its a great weight of chipboard. These could also be used as is but I decided to distress it a bit... after all....I am a Donna Salazar Designs girl ;) I added two new colors of Smooch Spritz to these puppies coating them front and back in my color catcher.

These colors are Ginger Ale and Candle Glow.... so pretty.... combined it was a gorgeous creamy gold shimmer.

Next I took the Truffle MIx'd Media Inx and slathered the ink directly over the front. It allowed the shimmer to shine through even though the ink is so beautifully rich and dark.

Set the sprayed nestaboard piece aside to allow it to dry. I love the distressed look so while it was wet I began "scratching" the surface with my nail to flick off some of the top layer... the colors, wetness of the board and the kraft color gives it a slightly faux wood look... really simple to achieve!

I tried the same technique here on this corrugated cardboard piece... love how the ink didn't cover the entire surface but the smooch was able to coat it completely.

Then I layered my card with pattern papers from Antiquities line. I added some Fall silk flowers and topped the nestaboard piece off with the gems for a complete card

Here is another little project I made using the same Smooch Spritz colors and mix'd media inx. You can see how the background piece came out so matte and artsy.

Foster Failure

We have begun the process of adopting a dog from a rescue and as I have been visiting their page and Facebook posts, I came across this term ... Foster Failure... lol I chuckled because even though I am not a dog foster... I know exactly what that term means.
I always have the best intentions with things I volunteer for. I have a hard time saying no to most people. I like to put people in the spotlight but shy away from any attention on myself... including my artwork etc and this makes it very difficult to be "noticed" in a very competitive industry.
Luckily, I enjoy everything about my life... being a mother is truly the best job I have ever had and still has the worst parts I have ever experienced. It truly has tested me as person and yet I have grown the most and learned the most from my children.
I volunteer as a Girl scout leader and after 5 years, now take care of membership for Barrington. We have 20 troops in our little town... with an average of 12 girls each.. .thats a lot of leaders, girls and forms... sometimes I wonder what Im thinking but then as I recruit and bring on a new leader and see her excitement and enthusiasm, it makes me smile and validates the work .

I try and get time to blog, post on Facebook, update my store and "just create" but being an art student takes all my creativity and I find I just don't have interest in the "other" stuff like I used to.
Its okay... as long as I still enjoy creating.. who says I have to share my work with the world?

I love that I would be a Foster Failure... as I look through those little faces of available dogs and hop around the shelters and other rescue groups... I want to save them all and know I cannot. I will not allow it to get the best of me . Knowing that Foster Failures are the good ones that want to commit the extra love and support to another life truly warms my heart at the thought and I will take the label any day.

Happy Monday and a giveaway

to you all.... we officially begin the school year tomorrow... with Erin going into 5th grade!!! Yikes... how did that happen? ;)
Follow up with my 6th grade boy Ryan Wednesday... and then momma and daddy have some time to actually go on our day dates again.... yay!!!!!
My classes begin next week and I am very excited.

I wanted to share a couple little tags I made with some scraps laying around my desk. I am also looking forward to a few uninterrupted studio time when life gets back and running here!! ;)

Simon Says STamp tember blog hop is underway. After viewing all the gorgeous inspiration that was featured on their blogs... I had to get in on the action!!!

I created this using my Studio Calico image of woodgrain.. love it so much!!! I doubled it up... then added my flowers to the seam so you couldn't see the line! Ha.. tricky ;)
I also used some Prima flowers, twine, Hero arts pearls and layers of fun cardstock
I ran a piece through my Sizzix using my Cuttlebug embossing folder and also used the machine to cut out a tag from Nestabilities lacey circles from Spell binders...

Appreciation

for so many things. We have just spent the last 3 days without any electricity, phone, etc and it really was both a burden and a blessing in disguise. Luckily, we maintained our water, had no damage or trees down and were home together... Jon got called in two of the nights as me and the mini clones sat in the dark, played checkers and "camped" in the living room, cozy and fun... It was a gentle reminder to see this through their eyes and treat it as an adventure. At the moment, still around 23% of my town is still without power so we feel blessed to have it back and will never take it for granted.
As I fill my fridge the next few weeks, I will have to remind myself of this.. ha.. (everything got tossed ;(
at least we get to cleanse and begin a new... its kind of like moving!! lol

I need to go work on the heaping pile of laundry that built while we widdled away... let me leave you with this...

Difficulties are opportunities to better things; they are stepping stones to greater experience. Perhaps someday you will be thankful for some temporary failure in a particular direction. When one door closes, another always opens.”

Inspirational Scraps

Hey everyone. I wanted to share a few tips for creating artistic embellishments. After I create a card or scrapbook page, I typically try and use up all the paper and embellishments to make either tags, or embellished accents .(I like to call them Scraps). They can be added to a cardfront, layered on a scrapbook page, or used as a bookmark or gift tag.
The possiblities are endless and they are great to have on hand for any future occasion!
First, I had created a card for a friend using Spring In Bloom papers.

Before layering the papers, I spritzed the white cardstock with a fun combination of Smooch Spritz that gave it a soft, shabby look.

I added some embellishments and the card was done.

I was inspired by the card to create the next two little "scraps".

Using some of the leftover paper from the card, I added some gems, cut and created a handmade flower from my Carnation Creations die from Spellbinders and a sticker. The back of this is unfinished but this would quickly add to a cardstock or can be added as an embellishment on a future scrapbook page... quick and ready !

Then, I was inspired to make a tag. Using the spritz that was left in my Color Catcher, I ran a tag through it until it was dampily "dusted" with the leftover smooch spritzes.
While I had my die cutter out, I cut a butterfly using the Fanciful Flight die from Spellbinders and added some gems. I added some paper from Antiquities to the dried tag. Another great embellishment or accent ready for use!

Here is another example of a card and its inspired scrap....

Here I cut and layered the "extra" flowers out of the same die cut template and the butterfly.
I even used the bits of "scrap" papers to create leaves and the title for the tag.

Next time, you finish a project, see what you can create using your leftover scraps to make some fun artistic and finished embellishments. You never know when you may need a quick accent!

Finding my Muse

Well, considering that the last three days, I have sat down and spent several hours creating like crazy.... I can say I think I have found my muse! I hope it stays around for awhile this time.
I was lucky enough to win the Newest Studio Calico line called Autumn Press from 2 Peas in a Bucket. I participated in their online social a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to win several goodies from this yet to be released line... you can see it here.. Studio Calico

and there is still much left to work with...so I will share those creations at a later date, Im sure!

Not sure if any of you are familiar with Big Picture Scrapbooking?
Big Picture is a group of inspiring teachers and designers from many walks of life, with different and unique talents teaching online classes to little sponges like me ;)

Anyways, right now and for the next week or so... they have something called Big Idea Festival.
The theme is Words to Live by.... each day a new instructor gives us a pdf with a word, the instructors definition of what the word means to them, a few examples of how they turned their word into a work of art using photos and words.... (ie scrapbook pages) and some pictures of their classes they teach there so you can get a feel for their style etc.

Many of their classes are crafty/art/scrapbook related, but there have been several I have taken there that simply changed the way I think ... reflect.

Even if you decide not to do the classes, there are several free prompts, tons of inspiration and a comraderie that is built from taking a step on a journey with like minds.

Have any of you taken any online classes? If so, what are your favorite kinds of online classes... what types of classes interest you? What do you look for in a great online instructor etc?

I was interested in this. I may be doing some online classes soon and was curious what my readers were interested in learning about? I would LOVE to know what your thoughts are...

Trying....

REally, I am. This blog thing has just been the last little neglected thing in my over busy days. I apologize. The thing is.. I love blogging... just writing in my voice, getting it all out. I have so many areas I like to focus on that when I sit down to write something.. I am just overwhelmed.

I needed a plan. I spent the last few weeks researching and reading blogs that I liked. I also really really LOVE Pinterest and the ease of just posting and sharing a picture... I decided to change up my blog here to make it more user friendly, for both my readers, as well as myself.

I am going to try and blog at least 3 times a week up to every day.. .once I get the hang of it.

Many of you suggested, Sunday... I write up and plan several days posts.. and then schedule them ahead of time... so I will begin with that.. will really help get caught up!!

Also, I have picked "themes" for each day... Now, I won't be posting every day so the blog will still be fresh and change often but from the behind the scenes.. it will be much easier to plan for me. Now.. lets catch our breath!

I am a girl who loves to embellish! When I saw these cute 4x4 inch clipboard covers by Zutter , my mind began dreaming up all sorts of creative ways to turn this simple but practical clipboard into a work of art.

I began by covering the wood panel with a creamy paint stick . I used Faber Castell's gelatos in white. You can also paint it or use pastels, crayons, etc.

Next, I spritzed over the white lightly with Smooch Spritz in Tea Party.

Add another layer of the color and spritz again.. .this time spritzing more generous allowing it to run down, and leave streaks. Allowing some of the wood to show through and the spritz uneven gives it a distressed , aged look.

Once the clipboard is dry, I added some of Donna Salazars journal cards (trimmed to fit and distressed of course ;) to the centers of the wood and adhere with Mod Podge or other strong liquid glue.

Run each clipboard through the Bind It all to create even holes. The greatest thing about the Bind It All is that you can use any size in the machine. I chose 4x4 but if you wanted to create a larger plaque or covers for an album you can adjust your Bind It all accordingly!

Punch the holes in the center of the clipboard.

Use your strong adhesive again to adhere the "unfinished" sides together... back to back so the panels become one thick clipboard piece.

Let the embellishing begin! I tied various ribbons, threads and laces to each hole in the top, varying the lengths, textures and widths of the fabrics to give it a more eclectic look.

I used some 3 dimensional adhesive dots to add some flowers which I fussy cut from Donna's paper lines.

I added some transparency quotes I had from my collection. You can handwrite a quote, print one off the internet or cut one from Donna's Crafty Chronicle to add to the centers of the board.

Hang with wire, hanger or twine and embellish your home, office or art studio with a touch of handmade goodness! This would make a great gift too and super easy to make but don't tell the recipient that ;)

I just fell in love with this color palette this summer... the teal, pink/purple and orange color combo. I had wanted to create with this. The thing I love about cards is that even when you love a color palette and cannot find any photos to complement it, cards are a fun way to combine things, use up your supplies and create!

I also did a few cards from the new Simple Stories 100 days of summer line. I saw this line and knew I had to have the collection!

Here are the cards I made... the first of many projects with this fun bright collection!

Hey there . Hope you all are enjoying your summer. We have been swimming, eating ice cream, driving, enjoying the warm sun and travelling to new places. I always love the longer days and quiet nights as we sit outside unwinding from the days adventures!

Steal some time away to get your artsy on this summer~! I put together a fun bright layout by layering these gorgeous papers from Donna Salazars Antiquities line mixed with some scraps from Pink Paislee and Simple Stories... I had fun cutting and spritzing and being artistic! Donna's muted, shabby tones blend perfectly with other manufacturers accents and patterns to create a fun layering of grungy goodness!

I used some Smooch Spritz in River Mossy to add this rich blue coloring to a paper doily and a light coat of it onto the Artistic paper journal tag.

Here you can see the layering of spritzed and distressed pattern papers.

These dragon fly accents are by Spellbinders from the Fanciful Flight collection.

They are also spritzed to keep the color scheme consistent . Add some Fairy Dust Glitter to give them a transluscent look.

So I hope I"ve inspired you to squeeze some crafty time for yourself and try something new, play around and have fun this summer with your art!

Super Secret Sneaks

CHA... otherwise known as Craft and Hobby Association bi annual trade show takes place next week. I am not attending but with technology, have the priviledge of watching it all unfold online.... How exciting for us crafters... all new stuff. Summer is the Fall and Winter/Xmas lines that get released and are always very very cool stuff!

Donna Salazar and team are being VERY super sneaky about all the new goods... Us Design Team members know only as much as the rest of ya'll!

Artistic Banner

Hey there summer. Kim here with an artistic banner that will add a special touch to everyones summer decor! For our international friends, where it may even be winter,this banner is great for you as well.
Grab your Artistic papers and lets get going...

First off, I started with the Banner Artistic papers designed by Donna Salazar. I cut the scalloped triangles out and spritzed them with River Mossy Smooch Spritz.

Next, from the Spring In Bloom Artistic Papers, I had fun coloring in the images to match whatever cardstock or season it is. It can be tailored to uniquely express any feeling depending on what you want to convey. Since it is summer here in the States, I wanted to do some rosey, orange flowers and some vivid blues and dark greens.

I used copic markers but you can also use pastels, crayons, watercolor, acrylics, stamping inks... whatever your artistic hearts desire!!! These papers truly bring out the Picasso in us all.

Next, I carefully fussy cut around the part of the image I wanted to fit onto the banner. I loved this rose image here:

I continued adding colored images, small embellishments and strips of other Donna Salazar pattern papers until each banner had some accents added.
I also created some larger triangles out of cardstock and finished them with Pattern papers, images, and accents as well. I also used some tags from the Artistic Journal cards as mats for several words and accents. I left them uncolored to see the scroll patterns details.

Once all your little banner pieces are to your liking, punch some holes on both sides of each triangle using a mini hole punch. String the banner pieces using Kraft twine or cord, having the line run in the back of the banner.

I tied two bows on the ends of the banner to keep the pieces from sliding off. Hang the banner up and let everyone marvel at your creativity. The artistic papers give this such a charming addition and because they come un painted/colored, can be created to match your unique ideas.

getting ready for the 4th

WE have no plans this year for 4th of July. Usually, every year, we through a BBQ or go somewhere but this year, we plan on just hanging out... maybe head down to the family to swim...
I wanted to share some cards/tags I made that have a patriotic feel to them

First up is a card using K and Co new line ... love its vintage authenticity..

I loved the bright blue and I added in strips of Donna Salazar papers that I had laying around from scraps of bigger projects.

Love how the denim and lacey edges added a rustic Americana touch!

Next up is a scrap or tag I made

using K and Co accents with Donna Salazar artistic papers, and Antiquities line of papers I thought it would be fun to do the red/white/blue colors mixed with Kraft with a friendship/anniversary or love themed message... very unique and fun!

and this card... a favorite ....

just a mixture of things right on my desk at the moment... Love how it all comes together!!!

Hi. Kim here with a few cards to get you through June. June is synonomous with Brides and Dads. We spend the time finishing up school, grilling with Dad on Fathers Day and attending lots of outdoor weddings. I wanted to create a few cards that would be on hand during this busy social month.

The first card I made with my own father in mind. My dad is always reminding me to relax and since I get my type A personality from him, ;) I am returning the sentiment.

I wanted to use some distressed corrugated cardboard as my card base. It gives a great support and has a masculine texture. I inked the edges with Clearsnap ink in Chocolate and Blueberries
The pattern papers are from the Antiquities line by Donna Salazar Designs for GCD

I fussy cut a little stop watch from the Crafty Chronicle and the Artistic papers calendar
Created to put at his desk as a reminder to enjoy , relax and take some time for himself.

For the next card, Wedding Day, I took a more feminine approach.

First, I layered several pattern papers from the Antiquities line. I wanted to keep the traditional blue color scheme that is commonly found in wedding themes. I stamped a sentiment using Clearsnap ink in Chocolate and Blueberries and added some Fairy Dust Glitter in Mixed Berries to give it an iridescent glow

I spritzed a doily with Smooch Spritz in River Mossy. .

Next, I tied a ribbon and added some gems for a beautiful card to celebrate the Happy Day!

Hope this gives you some ideas for card making during June and using Antiquities papers. Its so versatile that it covers the many occasions you will make cards for this summer and throughout the year!

Sharing a layout I did using the fabulous Antiquities line of papers

As an accent, I spritzed a large doily with Smooch Spritz in a few layers of Green Olive and Caramel Latte . The shimmery spritz blend reminds me of the old aged look of patina you find in museums and old furniture.

I made some little handmade paper flowers and stems out of the paper and added a dark brad center.

The double sided papers are so fun for layering! Each paper has different textures both tactile and visual so you get a unique layout depending how you build upon your layout!

See all the details just from the prints in the papers. I love the scallop borders created from the Paper Ribbons page.

I also added a quote from Donna Salazar's Crafty Chronicle that fit perfectly with this theme.

This paper line has already gotten lots of use and I haven't even begun to tire from it because it goes with just about every theme and with the details right in the paper, all you need is scissors, glue and some imagination and the possibilities are endless!

LOL Feeling a bit sheepy lately

Can I make it up by sharing some little pretties? I have had fun with some of my stamps. Using some Valentine stamps for Non valentine type cards. Love is... after all.... always in season, right?

and I converted the Bliss stamp into a wedding themed one.
I used the clear glassine bag and Prima packaging as layers. I love love love the look of white embossing onto black paper... so elegant.
Okay, I promise not to stay away so long this time... did I make it up with all my "love" projects? Sort of? ;;)

Hot off the Press....Younique embellishments for layouts

Hey all, Its Kim . Im here to share some fun ways to use scrapbook papers to create unique embellishments for your scrapbook page.

I started building my layout with lots of layers from the Antiquities line by Donna Salazar for GCD studios
I lightly spritzed the background with Smooch Spritz in Woodstain. I didn't want to add too much extra color but just lightly gave it some rich color and texture.
After grunging it up by inking it and distressing it I wanted to add some fun embellishments to this page.
I created a quirky title by laying the letter chipboards down to match the wording of 'a crooked' smile

This created some visual interest and gave the layout a whimsical feel which matches the theme .

Next, make sure you check out Donna Salazars Crafty Chronicle. Not only is this fun newspaper chock full of silly articles, clever quotes and crafty goodness, it was also perfect for cutting up and using as paper accents on my scrapbook page!

I closely cut around the car, as seen here and I layered it on a few of my patterned paper pieces. Inked edges give it dimension .

To create more accents as embellishments , I added some other hand cut elements from the Crafty Chronicle including the bee and the word "younique" which I used as part of my title

I added some Fairy Dust Glitter in Pralines in Cream to the bees wings adding another dimension of unity to the design of the embellishments.
A tag full of textured "junque" accents ties the entire layout together!

Thinking of You Spring

Hello, Kim here with a tongue- in- cheek post sharing a layout I did about Spring.

In New England, we have unpredictable weather. Sometimes we are even "lucky" enough to get a Spring snowfall... yes, you read that right... snowfall.

What is a girl to do about Mother Natures miracles? Well, document it , of course, with a pretty Spring scrapbook page!

I love how Donna Salazars Spring In Bloom collection puts me in a spring mood despite the heaping mound of wet white stuff on my poor little rose plant outside.

From her Spring In Bloom line, I used the Ribbons paper to create layered border strips which I accented with lace.

I handcut the flowers from the In Bloom page and spritzed them with Smooch Spritz and a touch of Fairy Dust Glitter

I cut the word Spring for the title out of the patterned paper collection pack and added some rub- on's to finish off the title.

A few paper doilies, a handcut butterfly and some lace add the perfect finish for the page. I can almost feel the snow melting away.. okay, maybe not. Until June then, I will be' Thinking of You Spring'.

Mothering

this little fella has been the biggest adventure of my life. Everything... and I mean everything is an exception when it comes to him.
Last night we went to a local carnival. Erin wanted to go on everything and Ryan.... well, he wants to do NOTHING.... the lights, the way things spin, at first it was all very exciting for him. As the sun went down, it began to get very dark . The lights lit up stronger, brighter and all the excessive stimulation was just too much for him to handle. He began flapping, pacing, darting off etc.... wayyyy too nervous for me to remain relaxed and enjoy.
Simple things... .like a fun night at a carnival... isn't for him.
I woke up this morning feeling better about things... trying to remind myself that it is a going to be an adventure forever for us... there is really NO such thing as normal anyways so I shouldn't get so wrapped up in worry about the fact that we may never be able to go "regular" places without having it be a truly unique experience.... I am a member of a club I never asked to join yet am proud to be a leader of this club. I feel honored to be given this role of parenting a special child like him.
Not to worry about the looks he is given, the stares and blatant RUDE looks he gets from people... of ALL ages even despite my very HARSH looks back... I guess its lack of knowledge on their part, and that really is MY issue, not his... and I know this... but some nights... its hard...
Some nights... I just want to go see a fabulous musician who has come into town play at a local pub.
Just sneak out and leave my kids with a babysitter like I used to have...
So this morning, I will spend Mothers Day completely unique to us.... chocolate cake for 2 for him and I ...for breakfast... , watching documentaries on trapeze artists, and farm animals.
and for this boy and this momma, what a perfect Mothers Day

Sugary Sweet and soft

Hey all, Its Kim here with a pretty little project using Donna Salazar Designs amazing products. Sugary Sweet and Soft is the feeling you get when you dust a layer of Donna Salazars Fairy Dust Glitter onto your projects!
Just in time for Spring is this lovely line called Spring In Bloom. I created a little journal to give as a Mothers Day gift or housewarming hostess.

For the book or album, you can use your Zutter Bind-It-All and chipboard to create a mini album or purchase a ready made one like I did here.

1. First, I cut out a square from the Spring in Bloom Artistic Paper line and trim excess negative space to make a 4x6 cardstock with image.

2. Paint, or color it in with markers ( I used Copics) to fill in the floral image and leaves/stems.

3. Add Glue Gloss with applicator lightly over the script text . Sprinkle with Pralines and Cream Fairy Dust Glitter. Ink edges of cardstock with Color Box Archival Queue in Deep Grape (from the Beach Towels collection)

4. Handcut a purple butterfly from the Spring In Bloom collection , add Fairy Dust glitter using Glue Gloss to adhere and add to left corner of cardstock with a pop dot, bending the wing up slightly.

5. On a extra piece of Artistic Paper (blank) 1x3 inches... apply a Design Adhesive by Clearsnap. I used the word Enjoy.

6. Add white Embossing Powder , sprinkle off excess and heat set with tool.

7. When the image is cool liberally apply Deep Grape Ink over image and background. Wipe off excess with a soft cloth or paper towel. to reveal a subtle and resisted image underneath the darker background ink. Keep adding ink and wiping off until you receive desired affect.

8. Add gems to sentiment and adhere with pop dots or 3 d adhesive. to bottom left of cardstock as shown.

9. Using Glue Gloss, apply adhesive to a wooden craft spoon tip (vintage or plastic spoon would work also ;) Add a thick layer of Fairy Dust Glitter in Pralines and Cream. Let dry and then repeat process on the back side of spoon tip. This resembles the chocolate and sprinkled coated spoons you can get in gift shops and will serve as a fun decorative element for the book.

10. Cut strips of burlap and silk ribbons, twine etc to tie around the spoon.

11. The greatest thing about this Glue Gloss applicator is that it is easy to apply to ribbons and fabric pieces without mess ! Next, add some adhesive to the burlap and then sprinkle it in Fairy Dust Glitter.. shake off excess and be amazed by the prettiness of it ;)

12. Tie silk tea dyed ribbons , twine, ribbon burlap or any other fabric around wooden spoon.

I added a decorative pin by Maya Road and attached spoon to center of cardstock piece.

Now you have a few techniques in order to create a gorgeous album, card or decorative piece just in time for spring showers, Mothers Day or celebrating all the new fresh events in your lives!

I mean.. really who can resist? Colorful, little, sour patch jellybeans? WOW talk about addicting.... I think I actually like these as much as sour patch kids... I really do have a sugar problem! lol

On to what this little bowl of color inspired me to make... I played around with some ink, some flowers and some yummy bright colors to get this layout.

I seriously have very vivid dreams... pretty colorful, not just the hues of colors, but elaborate, story filled experiences. I thought this would make a great idea for a scrapbook page.

I found some older Prima paper and paired it with some distressing and ink and lots and lots of gorgeous bright Prima flowers.. Yum... reminds me of this candy...

I created this pretty album using a combination of my favorite things... subtle colors, Prima goodies, vintage ribbons, K and Co embellishments, chunky board book chipboard, layers and layers of just goodies.. I followed no rules, did some painting, some inking, some original textures with absolutely NO plan in mind for this book... just a simple creation of love. It sits in my studio open for all to enjoy... no written words, no pictures, just the art of the book to fondle, turning the pages and exploring all the unique pages with every turn...

Sometimes, its just as simple as this....

Couch ridden

I woke up Monday with a horrible cold and it just overcame me completely. It quickly turned into more flu like symptoms and knocked me out these last few days. Erin was off of school today and was trying to help me get Ryan ready for school (Even though she is 22 months younger than her brother, she is a great help as Ryan needs such one to one assistance with such simple matters) She fell down onto a drawer that was left open and bruised her little coccyx (bum... tailbone) poor little girl... so we have Ryan who needs special assistance with EVERYTHING... a very ill momma and a baby girl scooting around with a sore behind and needs assistance standing, sitting... Oh my.. we are a mess! lol

I am sharing some Easter cards today that will be showing in my ETSY shop a bit later... if I stay awake long enough to list them ... HA...

in seeing a layout??? My handsome hubby graces this page for a current layout I did . Its so rare to get Jon in any type of pictures. THe minute a camera goes his way, he either leans out of the way, or does something goofy! ;) So the other day, when he asked me to take some photos of him , I was very happy. Now if only I could get him to give me one of his relaxed crooked smile... thats the one that won me over ;)
I used some stuff from March Studio Calico kit which is filled with a ton of MME new line as well as Cosmo Cricket and American Crafts.
The title is letters added to a stamped image (Donna Salazar Designs) Her stamps are so amazing.. have such even coverage and have matching Spellbinders dies to boot!!!
I misted some chipboard stars with a combination of smooch sprays by Clearsnap and Tattered Angels . I used some of the stars with the misted side up and turned some around which made a cool misted border effect!!

Can you smell it yet? Spring is in the air.... the fresh earth, rainy dew drops gathering on the leaves... ahhh I love love love Spring so much.... muddy boots and all ;) and of course, this inspires me inside the studio as well.... lots of projects being created... using greens, pinks and flowers and lace... whats a Parisian loving, shabby layered gal to do?.. How bout create some cards... ;)

come in like a lamb but I have been some what of a lion lately ;) Grumpy beans, I've been... working hard to re decorate my studio and it takes all my physical and creative energy.. whew.. lol
I am almost done and 1/2 way re decorated my family room as well ....I'll add some pics here when I get it all complete.. so excited... its eclectic, vintage, Parisian, messy, artsy me... and I finally cannot wait to get in it and be creative...
I now have it set so whether Im crafty, scrapbooking, sewing or oil painting... I can do it all in my pretty little studio... Now if only I could move the computer/office stuff ... then I would have taken over the entire room HA! ;)

Here is my layout... I was also chatting with some friends over at 2 peas and they challenged me to use as much pattern paper as I could so this is what I came up with...
I flipped the sketch once to the right so the pattern paper would be on the bottom so I could OVERLOAD it ;) I love a good challenge...

my fellow freezing friends... and I don't want to hear from you if its 76 degrees.. okay! Just kidding... Its hard to imagine other places that aren't the arctic like its been here in New England...

literally... but the good part is it gives me an excuse to stay inside and scrap, stamp clean etc... I get so much done when we aren't out running everyone around...
This week starts a new Pass worker... YAY! Welcome Michelle... and a new series of social groups for Ryan.... Music, Karate and Club Jr... all through Autism Project of RI ... Meanwhile, ERin is busy with the troop of girl scouts.. selling those cookies... this year is tough!

Wanna see some cards I created? I finally cleaned the pile of leftover stuff off my desk and sorted my scrapbook room.. yet again! ;) Feels so good to get through it all... added some stuff to my Etsy shop and made these purty cards out of leftover holiday things...

Now to prove to you that I do live in New England and its truly freeeeeeeezing... here are some pics I snapped... thought it was cool to capture it mid freeze like this...

I was so inspired by the jewel tones that I jumped right into my studio to create this little card/tag and bookmark set.

is here... I gobbed my glitter onto the cardstock panel using Stickles glue and then heat dried it using my heat gun, flattened my cardstock back out (warps when heated a bit) and voila! A unique glittered cardstock piece as a background!

I was too overwhelmed to do a "best of" type post for 2010 and honestly, since 2010 wasn't one of my families best... it was just as well. We are excited and determined to move on.
I love the turn of the New Year... the positive determination everyone has and the resolutions to be better.

My word of the year this year is... RENEW you can find out details of the One Little Word project here.
I have done this for several years and it really gives my life purpose. Every word, regardless of the word I chose, I tend to focus on that word throughout the year, as I make decisions and balance out my playful memories around that word.

I hope all of you are resting, relaxing, spending time with loved ones and watching football, parades, shopping or whatever is your transition to the New Year. And since I"m feeling a bit sluggish after too much holiday fun, I share with you this picture of this old fella... Im sure several of us can relate ;)

Caroling Caroling

through the snow, Christmas bells are ringing! I cannot stop singing along . I never realized just how many Christmas songs I know the words to and have sung at the top of my lungs since I was a kid. All those years of performing for the senior centers and convalescent homes while I was in St Agnes elementary school. I really am blessed to have experienced feeling the true meaning of Christmas, giving time and entertainment to others .. it cost nothing but we spent days practicing and perfecting those performances all to see sheer joy and happiness on their faces for the brief time we entertained. A small fruit punch juice box and cheap cookie was our token of thanks and yet even as a child, I remembered never caring for the party. We literally all enjoyed the performances, making them happy.
Now as an adult, those songs bring back so many happy memories. So we are caroling here while decorating the tree and eating cookies. Looking for a senior center or hospital we can take the girl scouts or just my kids to.. to share some joy and bring hope and happiness to some lonely few. A reminder of the humble Lord and reason we celebrate this precious day.

I began working on some holiday and thank you cards as well as some handmade goodies that will most likely serve as gifts for Christmas.

Sometimes she can be quite demanding and ruthless but I would still enjoy watching her on tv, or reading one of her blog posts or books despite it all...
The woman.. Martha Stewart... she gives me purpose being a stay at home mother, crafter, domestic diva.. whatever you want to call it, she is still the only business savvy woman out there that fully respects the art of taking care of the home, the family and pets.

Devastating Loss

Our laptop has been destroyed! Seriously.. all our photos, all my work, our trips, experiences, journals, art, I have been like a lost little lamb lately.. trying to find my stupid place in this world. Confused by the reality of life and creating this other life I so desperately wanted to escape into.
In every great story there is a leading man. Mine is no exception.
Not only was he able to jump into my fairy tale and stand by my side he has helped to show me how I can live both lives with him at my side.
We have ordered a new lap top, I am back on facebook where the people whom I love most are and slowly but surely, attempting to allow some of the fairy tale characters into our very unique and mostly private world.
Private, as Im finding, only by our own accord. As it turns out, being completely open with everyone about who you are as a total person is truly the only healthy way to live.
Please don't start freaking out on me family and friends.. as i KNOW many of you willworry etc.. EVERYTHING is GREAT ;) I have been good.. this story is more metaphorical than anything.. me.. trying to be deep ;)

Anyways Im sorry I haven't blogged I look forward to gaining back some followers and for those that stayed I heart you all and look forward to catching up on all your lives ...

and I took this day to rest. we talked a lot about work ethics today as we respect and honor those who work hard to make a better life for their families.
Since it is the last weekend of summer, I am going to wear something white tomorrow in order to protest ;) lol

at least... Erin has her email set up. Printer is up and running. Finances are neverending... but stable ;) and we are in the market for a new car... so lots to look forward to in the next few weeks!
Family has been out visiting and believe it or not... we are preparing for back to school!
I have been doing some inventory for my VERY busy ETSY shop and adding things daily... so fun!

Our medical issues are becoming a routine, the days are getting shorter already... we are nearing the end of the heat waves and chaotic but fun family reunions.
I am itchin to scrap. I have been following along with the color challenge blogs and even though, I haven't had them finished or uploaded to the sites in time, still getting the layouts done and trying some fun new color schemes in the process.
Here are two recent ones using some older product and this fun orange/yellow, white and blue color blend.

this stinky summer

well, it could be worse... we could have kids with more serious illnesses... I know... I know... so I will refrain from griping,complaining, crying and moaning here on the blog... and put it in my journal instead.
WE were at Day Care from 8 am til about 3 every day... and it is tedious... Considering Erin is only 9, she is a real trooper... letting the nurses and myself, add the topicals, cleanse her skin, scrape her scalp, etc...She has made significant progress but still has a ways to go before she is considered free and clear and back to healthy skin... sigh... one day at a time.

Of course any of you familiar with ASD know... that while we take care of Erin's psoriasis... changing the schedule has MAJORLY affected Ryan as well... NOT a HAPPY boy at all... waking at night, wetting the bed, not eating, hitting, crying etc... all stuff I feel like doing myself! lol
Woes me.. lol I said I wasn't gonna complain and look at me go!!

On to something crafty... well... sort of... I am going to share some of my favorite summer pics.I am participating in Big Picture's class Picture Summer... Here are some of my favorite shots from this summer... see, it hasn't all been a wash out!

and more later...off to another week... this week, I am taking up the laptop so I can try and keep up with my blog readers and check out their blogs... I've been missing out on some things, Im sure!

just flies when we are having fun... doesn't it? Throw in a intensive reaction to Erin's psoriasis flaring up and AT ITS worst.. .poor baby... her entire body was covered by plaques/scales... even her scalp, ears etc... its like a bad bad case of poison ivy or chicken pocks with no medicine to treat!!
We are actually spending 3 days a week in the UVB/light therapy lab at Rhode Island Hospital. The nurses there are so knowledgeable and since she is so young, they just pamper her and make us feel like guests.
Monday and Tuesday this week we will be doing "Day Care" up there which means we go up around 8 am... stay there ALL day so they can treat her like royalty (lol... not really) they will be giving her Aveeno bathes, wrapping her scaly arms and legs in saran wrap after applying the medicated creams etc...
I will be basically chaperoning and keeping her company in between her "treatments"
She is always so exhausted so I probably will be taking great care of her next week...playing nurse mommy and napping myself in between her sessions.

Speaking of Erin being exhausted, I do have a layout to share. This was done last week for Studio Calico's challenge by Stephanie H... I scraplifted a fellow member Mel B... also from 2 peas.. ;)

We took the kiddos to the drive in theatre last night to see Toy Story 3... very well done... super cute movie

kissing this little guys cheeks... he is my absolute love. This pic is a few years old. I am always so inspired around him. It amazes me how much he looks up to me and how much he has grown to trust me. Despite the communication issues, we have learned a language of our very own and I admit I feel priviledged to be the main star in his little world. He is growing up way to fast. I wish I could hold on to him as a little guy like this forever... so many things to say about him... one layout at a time

Apron ology

I created this really cute (and clean) apron from Prima to use while Im in the studio... I loved it but all it took was one round of use of Tattered Angels and Maya Mists and the apron turned into a more artistic, (and more me) version . At least now I won't need to worry about getting my clothes dirty, and the addition of the paint to the apron will give it a totally tie died effect, no?
While my iron was hot, I decided to use up some iron ons and with a bit of fabric glue, I also created these cute little t shirts just for me...
I have been wanting to be able to wear some of my creations and promote my ETSY store ... the first two tee shirts are just for fun. The white tee is actually a full iron on I picked up at Michaels. I just added the word ART with iron on letters.
THe pink tee was inspired by my mom. 5 years ago , we lost her to breast cancer. I had been wanting to create something I could remember her by without going over the top with a message etc... I chose hope because she was full of it and handmade the design because she loved making painted t shirts and iron ons as well... crafty gene in the family ;)
The bottom t shirt I really made to hang as a display during a craft show. I thought it was a cute ad for my store and while I could wear it, thought it looked cute and handmade to promote my little store.
I would love to see if anyone else has created anything wearable... or any links to sites that do... would love to hear from you all!

Color Theory

Not sure how many of you knew that I went back to school this past spring. I enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design's Continuing education classes.
My first class was Color Theory. It was so informative and helpful especially for my scrapbooking and crafting. Part of the class was learning to mix colors . Then, we also sketched, painted and created using the tools of color theory, balance, value, intensity etc... and played with harmony and several art mediums.
I was entirely in heaven the entire class and look forward to taking more classes this fall.

It is supposed to be in the upper 80's today. Even though the number may seem small (for all my Texas, Arizona and Florida friends) lol.... believe me, 88 in New England after factoring the humidity is HOT but we are very excited for summer.... and finishing up at Primrose Hill (Erin will attend a new elementary school in the fall) and new beginnings.. Ryan attends his first summer camp!!
Lots to look forward too..
I got to play with this line from Bo Bunny called Paradise... for my May Design team work. I loved the distressed feel and the contrast of the complimentary blue /orange color scheme... so pretty!
I also added some Pink Paislee and Fancy Pants newest goodies.. tape, ribbons, and accents.
In the Seaside girls layout.. .I hand cut an S and added some "sand" from MUD Puddles... that stuff is amazing.. sticks great and doesnt get all over the place... I picked it up at the store . Fun stuff and now I am ready for summer... how about you?

okay, not really... but I did complete a mini album for Right At Home Scrapbooking. My design team goodies this month included these amazingly warm and complimentary papers from Bo Bunny.
I had some various pictures of our times at the beach. Living in a Coastal community ensures that you always have a ton of excessive "beach" type pictures.
I found some of my favorite quotes about the seas and added them to create this cute little album.
I loved how the chipboard "flaps" opened up... the album is cut from the store...die cutting machine. They have a template up there and can create an album for you that you can assemble yourself.... so fun.. and so many possibilities!!

Makes me want to head to the shore now.... mai tai anyone??? ;)
